Parenting Tip of The Month

Setting Limits using Rules: Experts say it is far better to have a few rules that you consistently enforce with your kids than to have many rules that you enforce only once in a while. Therefore this month's tip is to avoid setting too many rules. In addition, for younger children it is important to get to an eye level with the child and make eye contact when explaining those rules.

For Parents of Toddlers: Toddlers, as a group, give you many feelings of uncertainty and self-doubt when it comes to parenting. Spending most of the time with your toddler doesn't guarantee a good child-parent relationship, anymore than spending many hours apart if you are a parent that works full-time outside the home. When you are with your toddler just make the most of the time you spend with him instead of worrying about how much time you are spending with him.

For Parents of Pre-schoolers: When introducing a book to your child teach them words that are specified in the book. The simplest method to do this is to write the words on a large sheet of paper, with the title of the book at the top. Point to each word and read it. After you have read the list, tell your child, "Your turn. Point to each word and read it." Direct your child to try and reread it if he doesn't get it on the first try.
